NEWS RELEASE
For Immediate Release Landlords Retaliate: Moguls Supper Club (Formerly Estradas) Evicted For Demanding Long Overdue Repairs and Code Compliance COLMA, Calif.—(Apr. 23, 2024)— Moguls Supper Club, one of the Bay Area’s premier restaurants and lounges, takes satisfaction in overcoming multiple obstacles during the COVID-19 lockdown and three years of intense torrential rain. Today, the restaurant strived to stay afloat in a deadlock battle with its property management company and landlords over ongoing repairs such as water leaks and routine building maintenance. In 2019, Babar Hamirani, owner and operator, purchased the 1917 historic restaurant Estrada’s. He desired to create a Moguls Supper Club that provides dinner and shows on the weekends. The restaurant specializes in Indian and Pakistani cuisine. “It was a dream of mine to create this Supper Club space.” Babar Hamirani said. “I spend nine months renovating the space. Before I could open, COVID hit. So, we never opened.” A bit of hope came in 2021 when Moguls Supper Club partially opened for deliveries and to-go orders. During all those years, Hamirani made numerous requests to repair severe ceiling leaks and other problems in the restaurant and two-bedroom condo above the business. The landlords assured him things would be fixed in 2019, but he says it didn’t happen. The Moguls Supper Club, 7440 El Camino Real, Colma, is a property managed by Makras Real Estate of San Francisco, California. In 2022, President Victor Makras was convicted of fraud in U.S. District Court. The landlords are Mario Reyes and Jeanette Reyes of Austin, Texas. "Rather than support, we've endured relentless pressure regarding rent and faced eviction threats repeatedly," remarked Hamirani. "Our operations have been severely hampered during peak seasons, spanning months, due to incessant rainfall over the past three years. This predicament is pushing us to the brink of survival! Their actions blatantly disregard California's habitability laws." For detailed information, see California Tenants Rights. Interest reporters may also see videos and photos of the disrepairs its website https://mogulssupperclub.com Those items have been shared with the landlords, according to Hamirani. "You need to witness the aftermath following each rainfall," emphasized Hamirani. "I invested in this business, pouring hundreds of thousands of dollars into renovations, only to face the grim reality of potential closure due to the negligence of our landlord and property management companies. For years, we've endured an unhealthy and hazardous environment for both ourselves and our patrons, jeopardizing our survival." "We're at a loss for where to seek assistance; it feels like no one is lending a hand," expressed Babar Hamirani. "The establishment sits in an unincorporated area of San Mateo County within District 5, overseen by Supervisor David Canepa. We've reached out to Mr. Canepa for aid, urging him to engage County Attorney John D. Nibbelin and Steve Monowitz from the Planning and Building Department, responsible for Code Enforcement. Our optimism rests on San Mateo County intervening to ensure accountability. They've been presented with extensive evidence—videos, images, and five years' worth of neglect and violations—endangering both our customers and employees."
